The Gonstead Adjustment
After a complete analysis, the Gonstead chiropractor is ready to deliver any necessary adjustments. The focus of the Gonstead adjustment is to be as specific, precise and accurate as possible, addressing only the problem areas (areas of subluxation). Great care is taken to ensure a bio-mechanically correct position and precise thrust to provide the most accurate and painless adjustment possible. Gonstead adjusting is a high-velocity, low-amplitude manipulation delivered to the spinal bones in order to restore proper motion between vertebral segments. Gonstead adjusting is superior to many of the other chiropractic techniques in that it focuses primarily on areas of fixation as opposed to areas of pain. Most other chiropractic techniques focus on adjusting areas of pain but do not address primary and secondary fixations. The Gonstead chiropractor attempts to find the primary spinal fixations and correct them which will resolve the painful secondary fixations much quicker. Once the spine has regained it’s mobility, treatment stops. We do not sign up patients for long treatment plans, but rather treat them for a few times and see how the body responds to the care. In many cases, the pain and spinal fixations are resolved in just a few visits.
“Find the subluxation, accept it where you find it, correct it and leave it alone.”
– C.S. Gonstead

Coming in 2011, Chris Barnes will bring “MPI” style adjusting which encompassing a vast array of chiropractic techniques designed to fit the patients comfort and specific needs. Motion Palpation is a diagnostic technique used by the doctor of chiropractic to locate joint dysfunction within the spinal column and extremities. This technique was brought to the United States in 1981 and quickly gained acceptance as a standard diagnostic tool for the chiropractic profession. The Motion Palpation institute also uses manual techniques from a variety of disciplines in order to offer the chiropractor a well-balanced approach to patient care. For example, an MPI doctor may use joint manipulation from many chiropractic disciplines as his or her primary tool however, he or she may also include rehabilitative protocols from the physical therapy world, functional analysis from the Eastern manual medicine giants, soft tissue work from massage therapists, and nutrition from world renowned clinical nutritionists and registered dietitians.
